iPhone Fold Won’t Ship With iPhone 18 Pro, Gurman Says “No Doubt” About Delay

Apple’s Foldable iPhone Could Launch as 'iPhone Ultra' After All

Apple plans to introduce its first foldable iPhone this fall, but the shipping timeline now looks slightly delayed compared to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Early expectations pointed to a typical September rollout, yet fresh comments suggest buyers may need to wait a bit longer for the foldable model to arrive.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared new details during a recent Q&A, where he addressed questions about Apple’s foldable plans. His comments align with earlier analyst reports that hinted at a later shipping window, even if Apple announces the device alongside other iPhone models.

Foldable iPhone faces production challenges

According to Gurman, the delay comes down to complexity. Foldable displays remain one of the most difficult components to produce at scale, and Apple appears to be taking a cautious approach before shipping the product widely.

“Foldable phones are very difficult to produce. That display technology is some of the most complex display technology available on the market today. And so there is no doubt that this is going to come a little bit later than the Pro phones. Whenever Apple does a major new form factor design, something specifically that’s pretty complex as we saw with the iPhone X back a decade ago, you’re going to be a little bit delayed past the other models.”

Gurman’s mention of a “little bit later” timeline suggests Apple is not facing a major delay, but rather a staggered launch similar to past products. Apple followed a similar pattern with the iPhone X, where availability slipped beyond the initial release window.

Expected launch and shipping dates

Apple still plans to unveil the iPhone Fold during its September event, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models. However, shipping timelines now appear more flexible depending on production readiness.

Here’s what the current timeline looks like:

  • September 2026: Apple announces iPhone Fold with iPhone 18 Pro lineup
  • Late September 2026: iPhone 18 Pro models go on sale
  • October to December 2026: iPhone Fold begins shipping in limited quantities

This approach gives Apple more time to stabilize production while still showcasing its new form factor early.

As things stand, the foldable iPhone remains on track for a 2026 debut, but buyers should expect a short wait after launch before it reaches stores.
