It Looks Like Amazon, Not Apple, is Going to Buy Wondery

Amazon is in exclusive talks to buy  Wondery, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. Previously, it had been thought that Apple might purchase the podcast-maker. (As discussed with Tom Merritt on episode two of Media+.)

Amazon Could Add Wondery to Growing Audio Arsenal

The talks reportedly value Wondery at $300 million, an increase from $100 million since its last funding round in June 2019. If the deal were to be completed, it would add podcasts to Amazon’s expanding audio arsenal, alongside podcast-app Stitcher and audiobooks service Audible. Furthermore, Amazon Music started providing podcasts in September. All this, alongside its Alexa-enabled speakers, means expanding the amount of content the company produces would make sense.
