Apple Unveils New Mac Studio With M5 Max and M5 Ultra, Up to 512GB RAM

The first unverified Geekbench 7 result for Apple’s M5 Ultra suggests a substantial CPU gain over M3 Ultra, but the single database entry is not a substitute for independent testing.

The listed result is for the highest-end M5 Ultra with a 36-core CPU. It should not be assumed to represent every Mac Studio configuration or every task. A high multi-core result is most relevant to software that can use many CPU cores effectively, while some everyday work is limited more by single-core speed, memory or storage.

Apple’s announcement supplies the official comparison framework, while the Geekbench record is an early observation that will need corroboration. Once retail hardware is available, repeated tests can show the range of scores and help separate a favorable early submission from typical performance. For now, the benchmark is interesting evidence, not a final verdict on the new Mac Studio.

The original Geekbench 7 result identifies an Apple M5 Ultra with a 36-core CPU and records a 3,774 single-core score and a 52,516 multi-core score. It was uploaded on September 15 and lists a Mac17,15 system running macOS 27.0.

Apple skipped an M4 Ultra generation, but one early score does not establish an across-the-board percentage gain over M3 Ultra. Benchmark numbers can vary by configuration, software version and test conditions. GPU results and real workflows such as video editing or 3D rendering need separate testing.

Apple has announced that the new Mac Studio with M5 Ultra will ship on September 22. The company says M5 Ultra offers up to 1.25 times faster single-threaded and up to 1.3 times faster multithreaded CPU performance than M3 Ultra. Those are manufacturer claims, while this result remains an unverified early data point.
