Apple is improving the experience for users with ultrawide monitors in macOS 27 Golden Gate by adding native support for higher resolutions and better display management. The update allows compatible ultrawide displays to run at up to 5K resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate, giving users a sharper and smoother viewing experience.
With macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple removes some of the limitations that Mac users faced when connecting ultrawide displays. Users can now take full advantage of higher-resolution widescreen monitors without relying on workarounds or third-party solutions.
Apple has also introduced persistent display arrangements, which means macOS will remember the exact layout of connected displays. When users reconnect their ultrawide monitor, the system automatically restores the previous arrangement, saving time and reducing setup frustration.
macOS 27 Golden Gate is currently available in developer beta and Apple plans to release the update to all users this fall.
