Meta has officially launched WhatsApp Plus, a new optional subscription plan that adds extra customization and messaging features for users who spend a lot of time inside the app. The new plan costs $2.99 per month in the US, and the rollout has now started globally after months of limited beta testing.
TechCrunch reported that Meta is expanding its paid subscription strategy across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook as the company looks beyond advertising revenue and builds more premium tools for regular users.
WhatsApp Plus includes
WhatsApp Plus does not change the core messaging experience, and free users will continue getting the same basic features they already use today. Instead, the subscription focuses on personalization and convenience tools that heavy users often request.
Subscribers get access to:
- Premium stickers
- Custom app themes
- Different app icons
- Extra pinned chats
- Premium ringtones
- Expanded chat list customization
These additions make WhatsApp feel more customizable without affecting regular chats, calls, or privacy features.
Meta also launched Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus for $3.99 per month each. Those subscriptions focus more on creator and social features, including Story insights, audience tools, profile customization, and extra visibility options.
Meta says more features will arrive later as the company continues building its broader “Meta One” subscription platform.
The company also confirmed that these new Plus subscriptions do not replace Meta Verified, which still handles account verification, impersonation protection, and support features.
Meta AI subscriptions are coming next
Meta is also preparing paid plans for Meta AI users. The company plans to test Meta One Plus and Meta One Premium subscriptions next month in selected countries, with higher tiers offering more advanced AI reasoning, image generation, and video creation tools.
At the same time, Meta will begin testing separate subscription plans for creators and businesses that include analytics, audience insights, scheduling tools, and profile promotion features across Facebook and Instagram.
