The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said the system was supposed to have been completed by October but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a press conference, MTA executive director Al Putre said the next goal is to bring OMNY to New York railroads and release contactless OMNY cards to replace MetroCards in 2023.
