Police Track $2 Million iPhone Heist Using AirTags, One Suspect Escapes

A second suspect remains on the run after a high-value iPhone 17 Pro Max heist at a FedEx facility in Doral, where authorities say nearly $2 million worth of devices were stolen in a planned operation earlier this month. Police continue to track the missing suspect while confirming that most of the stolen phones have already been recovered.

According to the Doral Police Department, the theft took place on March 19 at a FedEx facility located at 10000 Northwest 21st Street, where two men allegedly posed as employees of Union Logistics and gained access to the shipment. Investigators said the suspects used fake identification and managed to load 38 boxes filled with iPhone 17 Pro Max units into a rented U-Haul truck before raising suspicion.

How the heist unfolded

Authorities identified the suspects as Robert Rashawn Soto, who remains at large, and 61-year-old Jeffery Moore, who was later arrested and charged with grand theft, conspiracy, and organized fraud. The plan began to fall apart when the real company manager arrived at the site and noticed the unauthorized activity, which led to an attempt to stop the suspects before they fled.

Law enforcement tracked the U-Haul using AirTags and license plate readers, which helped officers locate the vehicle traveling north on Interstate 75. Officers from Florida Highway Patrol and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office stopped the truck within hours, arrested Moore, and recovered the stolen iPhones.

Police continue search for second suspect

Moore, a South Carolina resident, now faces serious charges and appeared before a Miami-Dade judge who set his bond at $2.5 million. Meanwhile, investigators continue to search for Soto, who they believe left the warehouse and separated from Moore at some point during the escape.

“At this point, all we know is that the second subject who’s wanted left the FedEx warehouse and was at some point released or dropped off by the one that we arrested, we don’t know where that took place, we’re still scouring a lot of minutes of video footage between here and Alachua County,” said Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez.

Police say Soto is known within the South Florida community and urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
