Apple hosted a farewell party for Tim Cook on August 23, just days before he steps down as CEO on September 1 and moves into a new role as executive chairman. Around 200 people attended the gathering at the Caffé Macs cafeteria on Apple’s campus, where OneRepublic also performed for guests.
According to The Information, several senior Apple figures and longtime associates spoke during the event, including Laurene Powell Jobs, former Apple COO Jeff Williams, services chief Eddy Cue, and incoming CEO John Ternus. The timing also came just before Cook marked 15 years as Apple CEO on August 24.
Cook will remain closely involved with Apple after leaving the CEO position, although his public role will become smaller. As executive chairman, he will help with selected company matters, including engagement with policymakers around the world.

John Ternus Takes Over as Apple CEO
Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and has served as senior vice president of hardware engineering since 2021. His first major product launch as CEO will come during Apple’s September iPhone event.
According to The Information, Apple wants a smooth transition with limited internal changes, and Cook’s executive assistant will continue working with Ternus as he takes over the company’s top job.
