Apple introduced digital car keys in 2020, letting you lock, unlock, and start select vehicles using your iPhone or Apple Watch. Now, the 2026 Toyota RAV4 supports the Apple Wallet car key feature in the United States, expanding the list of automakers that work with Apple’s system. This means you can leave your physical key behind and use your phone or watch for daily driving.
According to a post on Reddit’s r/rav4club, select trims of the 2026 RAV4 already show the car key inside Apple Wallet. The user shared hands-on experience after 100 miles with a new RAV4 Woodland trim and confirmed the feature works without opening any app.
In the thread, the original poster wrote, “Not sure but it’s in my Apple Wallet now and I can go to the car without keys to open it and start it up without even taking my phone out or having the keys on me.” In another comment, the user added, “I approach the car without keys and phone in my pocket then it opens automatically when I put my hand on the door then starts up inside with the phone still in my pocket.” These statements point to full Apple Wallet integration rather than Toyota’s separate app-based digital key.
How the Apple Wallet Car Key Works on RAV4
Toyota uses Ultra Wideband technology for passive entry. When you walk up to the vehicle with an iPhone 11 or newer, excluding iPhone SE 2, iPhone SE 3, and iPhone 16e, or an Apple Watch Series 6 or newer, the car detects your device. You can unlock the door by touching the handle and start the engine without removing your phone from your pocket.
The feature appears to require a Toyota Remote Connect subscription, which starts at $15 per month. Toyota includes a one-year free trial with a new vehicle purchase. For buyers who want phone-based access with no extra steps, the 2026 RAV4 now delivers that convenience directly through Apple Wallet.
