In a replay of the now-legendary pre-order rushes of years past, the most desirable model of Apple’s new flagship lineup vanished from launch day availability in a matter of minutes. Pre-orders went live around 8 AM ET, and within the hour, anyone trying to purchase the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max was greeted with a heartbreaking shipping estimate: mid-October.
According to Apple’s online store, all storage capacities for the new hero color are showing delivery windows between October 6 and October 13. That’s nearly a month after the official September 19 retail launch.
And it’s not just the new orange finish. The feeding frenzy has hit other Pro Max models as well. The popular Deep Blue color has already seen its delivery dates slip into the last week of September, while the Silver model is also pushed back into the same October timeframe as the orange. As of this writing, the smaller iPhone 17 Pro, the standard iPhone 17, and the new iPhone Air are all still readily available for launch day delivery on September 19. This suggests either a massive surplus of the lower-tiered models or, more likely, an absolutely colossal demand for the top-of-the-line Pro Max.
So, what can you do if you missed out? Your last hope for getting a Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max on launch day is to brave the lines. You’ll have to head to a physical Apple Store next Friday, September 19, and pray they have stock available for walk-in customers. Otherwise, the waiting game has already begun.
