WhatsApp is officially pushing a notable interface update to iOS users by replacing the familiar settings gear icon with a personalized profile tab. After a few weeks of testing in beta, the messaging platform has started rolling out this redesign to the general public.
This change fundamentally shifts how you manage your account details by placing your own profile photo in the bottom right corner of the navigation bar, setting the stage for more complex account management features down the road.

WhatsApp is replacing the settings gear with your face
If you update to the latest version of WhatsApp on the App Store, you might notice the traditional settings menu is gone. In its place sits a new tab labeled “You.” Instead of a generic gear icon, this tab displays your current profile picture.
Tapping it opens a refreshed interface where you can manage your identity, tweak privacy controls, and adjust your app preferences just like before. It simply adds a personalized visual cue to the main navigation screen.
It could be laying the groundwork for multiple accounts
This design shift serves a highly practical purpose beyond simple aesthetics. Meta has been developing multi-account support for WhatsApp, and replacing a static icon with a user profile picture makes it immediately clear which account is currently active. If you use platforms like Instagram, this behavior will feel instantly familiar.
A quick glance at the bottom corner tells you exactly who you are messaging as, removing any guesswork when switching between personal and business profiles.
It offers a fresh look with default cover photos
Along with the new navigation tab, WhatsApp is testing a larger visual update for the profile page itself. Some users are seeing a new default cover photo spanning the top of their screen. Right now, this acts as a large header to give the profile section a bit more presence. You cannot swap out this default background for a personal image just yet, but that functionality is expected to arrive in a future update.
Keep in mind that features like the cover photo and the new profile tab are still rolling out gradually, so it might take a few weeks before they show up on your device.
