Meta has announced another important change for WhatsApp users, as the messaging app will soon require newer software versions on iPhones and iPads. Starting November 30, 2026, WhatsApp will only support devices running iOS 15.5 or later and iPadOS 15.5 or later.
The company regularly reviews the devices and operating systems it supports to ensure users receive the latest security protections and features. According to Meta, older devices often miss important security updates and may lack the functionality needed to run newer versions of WhatsApp properly.
The good news is that this update will not affect as many users as previous compatibility changes. Devices currently running iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1 can also update to iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5, allowing them to continue using WhatsApp without interruption.
Devices Users Should Check
If you still use one of the following devices, make sure it is updated to the latest available software:
- iPhone 6s
- iPhone 6s Plus
- iPhone SE (1st generation)
- iPhone 7
- iPhone 7 Plus
- iPad Air 2
- iPad mini 4
These devices support iOS 15.8.8 or iPadOS 15.8.8, which meets WhatsApp’s upcoming requirements.
Users who update their devices before November 30 will continue using WhatsApp normally after the new requirements take effect.
