The Delightful Physics of 100,000 Rolling Marbles

· · Cool Stuff Found

According to Digg, “Jelle Bakker devotes his life to creating awesome marble runs and races to satisfy our craving for… marbles. Belkin Valet Charger - Portable Charging for Apple Watch and iPhone

· · Cool Stuff Found

Belkin showed me the the Valet Charger last week, and I’ve been itching for Tuesday’s launch so I could tell you about it. This portable battery charger has a USB port for charging your iPhone, but it also has a charging puck for your Apple Watch—and it’s MFi-certified. Belkin told me that making a device that could charge both wasn’t easy, which is probably why I haven’t seen any. The battery itself has a 6,700mAh capacity, more than enough to charge your iPhone and Apple Watch a couple of times. You recharge the Belkin Valet Charger via a microUSB port, meaning you can charge it, your iPhone, and Apple Watch all at the same time. I’ll be reviewing it, but I already got some hands-on time with it and I came away impressed. It’s priced at US$99.99, and it’s shipping later this fall.

But most importantly, it forms the basis for a new system architecture, according to Apple SVP Phil Schiller. It could create things heretofore not even envisioned. Particle Debris page 2 points to an exclusive C|NET interview with Mr. Schiller who explains why it took four years to develop.

Apple Kills Start Up Chime in New MacBook Pro Models

· · News

No more startup chime for new Retina MacBook Pro models

Apple has been on a killing spree of sorts with its new MacBook Pro models. The physical Escape key and function keys are gone, the traditional USB A and mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt 2 ports are gone, the SD Card slot and MagSafe are gone, and the iconic startup chime is missing, too. It’s sad to see—or hear—the startup chime go, but it seems Apple has a reason for axing the sound.
