The iPhone Duo’s $1,999 price buys the largest display Apple has ever put in an iPhone. Apple’s own spec sheets also show four things the $1,199 iPhone 18 Pro has that the Duo does not: a dedicated telephoto lens, Face ID, a physical SIM tray, and a phone in your hand in September rather than October.
None of these are hidden. They are the trade-offs of building a phone that folds, and Apple’s press release for the Duo is upfront about the camera system, Touch ID and eSIM. No dedicated telephoto lens, and no variable aperture
The Duo has two rear cameras: a 48MP main at f/1.6 and a 48MP Ultra Wide that Apple says matches the iPhone 18 Pro’s. What Apple calls an “optical-quality 2x telephoto” is a crop from the main sensor, not a separate lens, and zoom tops out at a 4x optical zoom range and 10x digital.

The iPhone 18 Pro keeps a dedicated telephoto lens, and its main camera adds a six-blade variable aperture from f/1.48 to f/4 with manual aperture and shutter speed controls. No Face ID
The Duo unlocks with Touch ID in the side button, which works open or closed, supports multiple fingers, and can unlock with Apple Watch. The camera under the inner display does not support Face ID, and Apple has not said whether a future Duo will.
No physical SIM, and no phone until October 23
The Duo is eSIM-only in every country, with dual eSIM, two active lines and support for more than 500 carriers, according to Apple. The iPhone 18 Pro is eSIM-only in 12 countries, including the US, Canada and Japan, and keeps a SIM tray everywhere else. If your carrier does not offer eSIM, the Pro is the only one of the two you can use.
Then there is the wait. The iPhone 18 Pro opens pre-orders on September 12 and ships September 18. The Duo opens pre-orders on October 16 and ships October 23, five weeks later. Two smaller gaps sit alongside it: the Pro reaches 50 percent charge in about 15 minutes wired against about 20 minutes for the Duo with a 60W adapter, and the Pro Max’s 45 hours of video playback beats the Duo’s 31 hours on the inner display.

- Dual eSIM with eight or more stored profiles, and two years of free satellite Messages, Emergency SOS and Roadside Assistance
