When Will Apple Stop Supporting the iPhone 13 and 14?

If you’re holding onto an iPhone 13 or iPhone 14, you’re probably wondering how many good years you have left before Apple stops sending updates your way. It’s a fair question. iOS updates aren’t just about new wallpapers or gimmicks. They keep your phone secure, fast, and compatible with the apps you rely on every day. So let’s break this down clearly so you know exactly where your device stands.

How Long Apple Typically Supports iPhones

Apple doesn’t abandon its phones quickly. Even before regulatory pressure pushed them to define minimum timelines, Apple regularly supported iPhones with major iOS updates for about five years and security updates for closer to seven.

Now there’s actual documentation. Starting with the iPhone 15 lineup, Apple’s UK PSTI compliance statement confirms a minimum of five years of software support from the date each device first ships. And the pattern holds when you look backward at older models.

Here’s the thing: both the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14 series were already expected to hit that five to seven year window. The newest data confirms it.

The iPhone 13 family launched in September 2021, and according to current support projections, Apple will keep them updated until 2028.

That means:

  1. iOS updates until around late 2027 or 2028
  2. Security patches likely into 2029

If you’re using an iPhone 13 today, you still have a few solid years before you need to think about upgrading purely for support reasons.

When Will Apple Stop Supporting the iPhone 14?

The iPhone 14 lineup arrived a year later in 2022. Based on Apple’s track record and the updated projections:

The iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max will be supported until around 2029.

Expect:

  1. Major iOS updates through 2028 or 2029
  2. Security fixes into 2030

So if you’re on an iPhone 14, you’re in an even better spot. You have roughly four to five years of platform support ahead.

Will iOS 26 Support the iPhone 13 and 14?

Apple Makes iOS 26.1 the Default Update for Users Stuck on iOS 18 (1)

Yes. Both the iPhone 13 and 14 lines continue to receive full updates and will comfortably run iOS 26. The cutoff points simply aren’t near for these models yet.

If you want to double-check your own device, head to:

  1. Settings > General > Software Update
  2. If you don’t see the newest update available, you might be running into a storage issue or network hiccup, not a support cutoff.

Why Staying on a Supported iPhone Matters

Let’s be honest. People sometimes treat updates like chores. But ignoring them means missing out on three things you actually care about:

  1. Security: Apple patches real vulnerabilities, and older unsupported phones lose that safety net.
  2. Performance: Updates fix bugs and keep your device from feeling sluggish.
  3. Compatibility: Apps gradually drop support for older iOS versions. Eventually, things stop opening, or new features won’t work.

Keeping your phone supported means you avoid that slow slide into frustration.

Should iPhone 13 or 14 Owners Upgrade Soon?

If you’re happy with your battery life and performance, there’s no pressure. Both models remain strong performers with years of support left.

Upgrade only if:

  1. your battery health is tanking
  2. your storage is constantly maxed out
  3. you want new hardware features like the iPhone 16 and 17’s improved cameras and battery systems
  4. you’re eyeing Apple Intelligence features exclusive to newer chips

But from a support standpoint alone? You’re fine.

The Bottom Line

Here’s the simplest way to think about it:

  1. iPhone 13 support ends around 2028
  2. iPhone 14 support ends around 2029

Both models still have a long runway before Apple cuts them off. So unless you’re itching for something new, your current phone isn’t anywhere near the end of its life.

  • My battery health on my Iphone14 is 85% and it seems like I need to charge it more than I used to (before the day is done). Should I get a new phone?

    1. Hi, I am no expert but I always make decisions to try and reduce waste and help this planet so I would take it to a repair shop for phones and just buy a new battery. If not, trade it in and get money off a refurbished one. Back market are great online for this and they will take your old one and reduce the price of the next one.
