FTC Returns $60 Million to Amazon Drivers That Company Illegally Kept

Judge gavel lawsuit cash

The Federal Trade Commission will return [PDF] US$60 million to over 140,000 drivers for Amazon that the company illegally withheld.

The FTC sued Amazon and subsidiary Amazon Logistics, claiming the company didn’t fully pay tips drivers earned through Amazon Flex. Amazon agreed to settle and give the employees the money. The settlement also stops Amazon from misrepresenting any driver’s likely income or rate of pay, how much of their tips will be paid to them, as well as whether the amount paid by a customer is a tip.

    Andrew:

So let me see if I understand this.

A trillion plus dollar company, owned by one of the wealthiest men in all of recorded history, illegally withheld some of the tips from its drivers, many of whom do not even have benefits, and had to be sued by the FTC in order to return those unlawfully withheld tips, on average amounting to the staggering sum of $422. Did I miss anything substantial?

What is Bezos angling for, the Snidely Whiplash award https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snidely_Whiplash? The contempt his company shows for its workforce beggars belief, and is excelled only by its contempt for its suppliers.

Blasting Shatner into sub-orbital space, and not killing him, buys but so much goodwill; particularly given that he stepped all over Shatner’s epiphany once he was back on terra firma.

Bezos should grow a moustache and practise his twirling technique; he’s already got a notable laugh.

People wonder why I do not buy from Amazon. This THIS is why. Will it make a difference? No, but at least I’m not aiding the empire. At one point I had several books self published through Amazon. A few years back I pulled them all down. I will not voluntarily be part of the evil empire.
