iOS 26.3 Adds “Limit Precise Location” for Better Carrier Privacy

iOS 26.3 Adds “Limit Precise Location” for Better Carrier Privacy

Apple added a new privacy control in iOS 26.3 that gives you more control over how mobile networks see your location. The feature is called Limit Precise Location, and it works only on devices that use Apple’s own modem. It reduces how much location detail your carrier can access, while keeping your phone working as usual.

Apple explains this feature in a new support document released today. The company says Limit Precise Location lets you restrict some of the information that cellular networks use to find where you are. Instead of showing an exact spot like a street address, the network may only see a broader area, such as your neighborhood.

What Limit Precise Location does

Cellular networks normally estimate your location by checking which cell towers your device connects to. With this new setting turned on, Apple limits part of that data. As a result, the carrier gets a less precise view of where your device is.

At the same time, Apple says this does not affect signal quality or your daily use. Calls, data, and network performance stay the same. It also does not change how your phone shares location with emergency services. Emergency responders still get accurate location data during emergency calls.

This setting also does not affect apps. Location Services, Find My, and other app based features keep working the same way. The change applies only to the location data that goes to cellular networks.

Devices and carriers that support it

You need a compatible device, the right software, and a supported carrier to use this feature.

Supported devices

  • iPhone Air
  • iPhone 16e
  • iPad Pro M5 Wi-Fi + Cellular

Software requirement

  • iOS 26.3 or later

Supported carriers

  • Germany: Telekom
  • United Kingdom: EE, BT
  • United States: Boost Mobile
  • Thailand: AIS, True

If your device, software, and carrier all match this list, you can use the new setting.

How to turn Limit Precise Location on or off

You can change this setting from the Cellular section in Settings. Follow these steps.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Cellular.
  3. Tap Cellular Data Options. If you use more than one number, select one of your lines.
  4. Scroll down and tap Limit Precise Location.
  5. Turn the setting on or off. You may need to restart your device.

Once enabled, your carrier will only see a less detailed version of your location. This adds another layer of privacy without changing how your phone or apps behave.
