Apple Adds A New Terminal Paste Warning In the macOS 26.4 Update

Apple just released the macOS 26.4 update, and it brings a very helpful security feature for anyone who uses the Terminal app. If you try to paste a command from another app for the first time, your Mac will now show a pop-up warning.

The company designed this prompt to protect casual users from accidentally running harmful code that scammers often try to push through websites or chat support.

How the new paste warning works

When you copy text from Safari or another application and paste it into Terminal, the system will pause the action. A small alert box will pop up saying the paste was blocked due to possible malware. The message explains that your computer has not been harmed yet, but scammers frequently ask people to paste commands to steal private data or break system files. If you know exactly what the code does, you can just click the option to paste it anyway.

macOS 26.4 protects new users from common scams

Because Apple recently launched the highly affordable MacBook Neo, lots of people are buying a Mac for the first time. These newer users are prime targets for threat actors who try to trick them into running dangerous text commands. Thankfully, the company made sure this security prompt only shows up once per source.

If you are an experienced user who works in Terminal every single day, you will not have to deal with a pop-up every time you copy and paste a string of code.
