WhatsApp Tests Unified AI Summaries for Multiple Unread Chats

WhatsApp AI chat summaries

WhatsApp is currently developing a new tool that utilizes artificial intelligence to generate secure overviews of multiple unread conversations simultaneously. Spotted in a recent TestFlight beta build, this upcoming addition allows users to quickly catch up on missed messages without opening individual discussion threads.

The messaging platform intends to reduce user notification fatigue by condensing its heavy chat volumes into clear and easily digestible text summaries.

The app generates private summaries via a unified inbox button

According to early testing reports, the application is exploring a “Get a summary” button located at the top of the Chats tab when the unread filter is active. By tapping this option, a user prompts the system to evaluate recent messages across different conversations and produce a consolidated recap.

To address privacy concerns, Meta handles this summarization through its Private Processing architecture. This isolated cloud environment ensures that personal data remains completely inaccessible to the parent company. The platform analyzes the text to deliver the core points and then immediately discards the temporary data without storing anything externally.

This functionality builds upon an earlier update where WhatsApp introduced individual chat summaries. The new unified approach prevents users from manually opening each busy group chat just to understand the context.

The feature remains under active development for both iOS and Android, and the company is expected to release it to a broader testing group soon.
