Apple recently brought a new feature to Malaysia that lets local shops take card payments directly on an iPhone. Instead of paying for extra hardware or bulky card readers, store owners can now just use the phone itself. This tool is known as Tap to Pay on iPhone. The tech giant built it to help small sellers save money and keep checkout lines moving fast without extra hassle.
The tool turns standard phones into simple payment terminals
When a customer wants to pay, the merchant types the amount into an app on the phone. The customer then holds a credit card, debit card, or smart watch near the device to finish the sale. It works with major options like Mastercard, Visa, and American Express.
Right now, five payment services support this setup in Malaysia, including Stripe and HitPay. More services are planned to join the list soon. This helps cafes, beauty salons, and retail shops skip the rental fees normally tied to cash register equipment.
Apple plans to add this checkout method to its own retail stores in the country later on. For now, it is focusing on getting independent shops to use the system first. The company keeps expanding this tool globally, making it easier for people to buy and sell goods.
