Apple to Pay $250 Million Over Siri Delay Lawsuit, Users Could Get Up to $95 Per Device

apple lawsuit

Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit tied to delays in its “more personalized Siri” features, which the company first introduced at WWDC 2024 and later promoted heavily during the iPhone 16 launch, but failed to deliver on time, leading to claims that Apple created a “clear and reasonable consumer expectation” around features that were not ready.

The lawsuit focused on how Apple marketed its Apple Intelligence-powered Siri, with plaintiffs arguing that the company promoted capabilities that “did not exist at the time” and would not arrive for years, while Apple denied any wrongdoing and chose to settle to avoid prolonged legal costs and keep focus on product development.

How much money users will receive

Apple will pay around $25 per eligible device, but that number can increase depending on how many users file claims. If fewer people apply, the payout can rise to as much as $95 per device, though the final amount will drop if claim volume is high because legal fees and administrative costs also come out of the total settlement pool.

The settlement covers devices purchased in the United States between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025, including:

  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16, 16e, and 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max

Apple’s response to the lawsuit

Apple said it settled the case without admitting fault and emphasized its ongoing work on Apple Intelligence features.

“Since the launch of Apple Intelligence, we have introduced dozens of features across many languages that are integrated across Apple’s platforms, relevant to what users do every day, and built with privacy protections at every step. These include Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up and many more. Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features. We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.” – Apple spokesperson

Apple continues to highlight “dozens of features” already shipped, even as the case centered on two missing Siri capabilities that were heavily advertised.

What you need to file a claim

If you bought one of the listed devices during the eligible period, you will need proof of purchase such as your device serial number, Apple Account details, or phone number, and Apple will send official claim notices within 45 days after the court’s preliminary approval.

This settlement puts a price on delayed AI promises, and it signals how closely regulators and consumers are watching how companies promote features tied to artificial intelligence.
