The streaming app Spotify just announced a big update to its recently launched social feature. The company is expanding its tool so that you can now write Playlist Notes for more than just music. While the original version only allowed you to leave comments on songs, this new expansion lets you add your own short messages to podcast episodes and audiobooks saved in your personal playlists. The update helps users capture a memory or explain why a specific pick made the cut.

You can attach short text notes to your saved audio

Last month, Spotify introduced a feature that let listeners add a short text note to any song on a playlist. Now, the platform is bringing that same ability to other types of audio. If you have a playlist with podcast episodes or audiobooks, you can tap the three dots next to the title and select the option to add a note.

This allows you to tell friends why you recommend a specific podcast episode or share what you thought about an audiobook. The company wants to make the listening experience more personal. The new feature is currently rolling out to users on both iOS and Android in over 100 markets around the world.

Editors will also share the story behind their audio choices

Along with normal users, Spotify editors are also getting in on the action. The company says its editorial team will use the notes feature to explain why certain tracks are important or why a song fits a specific mood. You will be able to read these notes to get more background on the music you find on the platform.

To help you connect with the people making these lists, the app is also adding editor profiles. You can view an editor’s profile to see the top albums and tracks that person enjoys. Editor notes and profiles are launching today for users aged 16 and older in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand.

This update gives everyone a fun new way to interact with the audio they love. Whether you are saving a funny podcast or a gripping audiobook, you now have the space to leave your mark and share your thoughts with anyone who listens along.
