WhatsApp Prepares A New Feature For Messages To Vanish After Reading

WhatsApp Introduces Strict Account Settings and Strengthens Protection Against Spyware

WhatsApp is currently building a privacy tool that makes text messages disappear right after the other person opens them. The popular messaging app is trying out an option called “After reading” in its latest beta versions. This simple addition gives users more control over digital conversations, making sure private details do not stay on a phone for too long. It is a quick way to keep chats secure and save valuable storage space at the same time.

Beta testers explore custom timers that clear out opened messages

Recent reports from WABetaInfo show that the newest beta version of WhatsApp includes this updated privacy setting. You can find the new tool tucked inside the default message timer menu. Right now, it works a bit differently from the usual time choices, like 24 hours or 90 days.

When you turn this setting on, you can pick an exact countdown for when the text goes away. The app lets you choose to make texts disappear 5 minutes, 1 hour, or 12 hours after the person on the other end reads them. If the message sits unread, it will just delete itself after a standard 24 hours.

The feature is currently rolling out to early testers on both the TestFlight and Android beta platforms. A few people using the regular App Store version might also see it pop up. Since the company is making it available across different operating systems, it hints that a public launch is getting closer.

You can set these disappearing messages for specific one-on-one chats or make them the default for every new conversation. Ultimately, this change offers a highly practical way to manage your digital footprint while stopping old messages from slowly filling up your device memory.
