Apple Confirms Custom EQ Audio Settings Are Coming to AirPods

AirPods Pro 3 use an Acoustic Seal Test to tune fit and heart-rate accuracy

During its WWDC 2026 keynote, Apple shared some welcome news for anyone who uses its wireless earbuds. The company is adding a new custom EQ feature to its AirPods, letting you finally change how your music sounds. Instead of relying on the fixed audio profiles that the earbuds normally use, you can now adjust the sound to match what your ears prefer. This update is part of the next big software release and gives you much more control over your daily listening habits.

Adjust the sound balance to match your own listening taste

Right now, the earbuds already pack helpful tools like Adaptive Audio, Personalized Spatial Audio, and Conversation Awareness. This new custom EQ adds another layer of tuning on top of those. You can tweak different sound frequencies directly, which means you get to balance the bass, mids, and treble yourself.

If you want your music to hit harder, you can boost the bass to make everything sound punchier. On the flip side, if you listen to a lot of podcasts, raising the treble will bring out the clarity in vocals and background instruments.

Based on the announcement, the new audio feature targets the active device lineup. The expected supported models include:

  • AirPods 4
  • AirPods Pro 3
  • AirPods Max 2

Handing over the equalizer settings gives users direct control over the audio playback. It is a simple update that moves away from a standard sound profile, letting you tune your earbuds exactly how you want them to sound.
