Apple Prepares To Launch The 1.4nm A22 Pro Chip For 2028 iPhones

Apple is reportedly working on a massive upgrade for its future smartphone lineup. According to new supply chain reports, the tech brand plans to introduce an incredibly small 1.4-nanometer processor, known as the A22 Pro, by the year 2028. This upcoming silicon shift promises faster performance and longer battery life for the highest tier of iPhone models, setting up a major technology leap over the next few generations.

Advanced manufacturing plants prepare for a massive jump in processing speed

Currently, the company uses a 3-nanometer design for the iPhone 17 family. It expects to shift down to a 2-nanometer process starting with the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro next year. Shrinking the physical size of these internal components allows the brand to pack more computing power into a smaller space without draining the battery.

TSMC is the primary manufacturing partner building these tiny parts. The supplier is already putting together new factory lines to handle the 1.4-nanometer scale. These smaller wafers are much harder to produce and cost significantly more money. Because of the high price tag, reports indicate that only the absolute most expensive 2028 models will receive the top-tier A22 Pro hardware.

There are also rumors that Intel might step in to help produce some of the standard chips, giving the main supplier some breathing room. As the demand for artificial intelligence parts continues to climb, having a backup manufacturing plan makes a lot of sense for a company producing millions of phones every year.

If this timeline holds true, buyers looking for the absolute peak of mobile performance have a clear roadmap of what to expect over the next four years.
