Apple Pay Adds Four New Features To Improve Your Checkout Flow

Apple Expands Cross-Border Apple Pay for Users in Mainland China

Paying for items with your smartphone is about to get a lot easier. The tech giant Apple recently shared details on four big updates coming to Apple Pay, aiming to simplify how you manage your cards and complete purchases. These specific changes will roll out to devices over the coming months, giving users much more control over their daily transactions. Here is a close look at what to expect from the platform soon.

A new checkout design makes switching cards much faster

The upcoming software update brings a fully redesigned checkout screen for websites and apps. It makes switching between payment options much simpler. You can swipe through your different cards directly on the main screen, or tap a specific card to see a full grid of your options.

Or get it by email

This layout also provides quick access to important details about each card. You can easily view your current balances, available rewards, and pay later options. The new design is part of the iOS 27 beta and will be available to everyone this fall.

Shoppers can pay for items using American Express rewards

A recent partnership between the two companies brings a handy perk for cardholders. When checking out online or inside apps, you will see a new option to use your points right on the payment screen. This means you can apply your points to cover all or just part of your final total.

Because of this specific change, Apple Pay now lets you spend American Express rewards points directly during a transaction. The points hold a value of 0.7 cents each. If you want to use 10,000 points, that will take 70 dollars off your purchase price.

A tap-to-share feature speeds up in-store checkouts

Another addition coming this fall is designed for shopping at physical stores. You will be able to connect your phone to a merchant’s device with a simple tap. This securely shares necessary details like your email, shipping address, and loyalty rewards information in one quick step.

While connected, you can also look at your shopping basket in real time on your own screen. This helps you confirm that all discounts are applied correctly before you finalize the purchase. Once you verify the total, you simply complete the payment using your phone.

Users can add money to supported debit cards directly

Managing your money will take fewer steps later this year. The platform will allow you to handle your debit card balances right inside the wallet app. You will not need to open a separate banking app to check your available funds.

Instead, you can add money directly to a supported debit card. You can do this at any time in the main application, or right at the moment you are checking out to make sure a payment goes through successfully.

These additions show a clear push to make the digital wallet more capable than just a basic payment tool. By adding direct balance management, reward point spending, and faster in-store sharing, the service is becoming a central hub for personal finance. As these tools launch, they should save people time and make the checkout process much more transparent.
