Instead of regular signal bars, phones are simply displaying an SOS icon, which means normal calling, texting, and using mobile data are unavailable right now.
The company has acknowledged the problem and says it is actively trying to get everything back online.

The company says fixing the network is its main priority
According to user complaints on social media, the problems began around 4 p.m. Eastern Time. Thousands of people started posting on platforms like Reddit about losing service. A spokesperson for T-Mobile confirmed the ongoing technical issues. The company stated that resolving the service impact is its highest priority right now.
While some users have reported their signal returning, many others are still waiting for a fix. Other major carriers like AT&T and Verizon do not seem to be having any issues.
The iPhones display an SOS icon when there is no connection
When a cellular network goes down completely, phones enter a fallback state. People who use an iPhone will notice the letters SOS up in the corner of their screen. This icon simply means your device cannot connect to your usual carrier.
However, you can still place emergency calls if you need help. If you expect a statement from Apple regarding this issue, you will likely not get one since this is strictly a network problem. Once T-Mobile fixes the outage on its end, your regular signal bars will automatically come back.
For now, the best thing to do is connect to Wi-Fi to send messages and make calls. Keep an eye on your status bar, as service should restore itself without you needing to restart your device.
