Netflix Licenses First Four Power Series From Lionsgate Television

Netflix Starz Shows

Netflix is bringing one of the most popular crime dramas to its streaming library this November. The company just struck a massive licensing deal with Lionsgate Television to stream the first four series of the hit Starz franchise, Power. The original flagship show is officially leaving Hulu to stream on Netflix in the United States, giving fans a brand new place to watch the critically acclaimed series created by Courtney A. Kemp.

The company gains international streaming rights to three major spinoffs

While viewers in the United States will only see the original show on the platform, international audiences are getting a lot more content. As part of the new multiyear agreement, the streaming service acquired the rights to stream Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force outside of the United States and Canada.

These three successful spinoffs will remain exclusively on Starz for American viewers. The original show ran for six seasons between 2014 and 2020, following the story of James St. Patrick as he balanced his life as a nightclub owner and a major drug kingpin. The global rollout for the first four shows begins this November, though exact dates will vary by region based on existing local contracts.

Upcoming new franchise offshoots are completely excluded from this agreement

Even though the franchise is expanding, this new licensing pact does not cover the newest projects currently in development. Fans will not find the upcoming spinoffs Power: Origins or Power: Legacy on the Netflix platform. Those shows are strictly excluded from the current deal and will stay under the Starz umbrella.

This acquisition makes a lot of sense for the company following the massive success of Nemesis. That original drama was also created by Courtney A. Kemp and logged tens of millions of views shortly after its release. By bringing the original crime saga to a global audience, the company is doubling down on a creator who already has a proven track record on its platform.

Fans who want to revisit the gritty streets of New York, or experience the gripping story for the first time, only have to wait until November to start watching.
