Ted Lasso season 4 has delivered the biggest launch in Apple TV history, giving the streaming service a major early win after bringing the comedy back more than three years after its previous season ended.

Deadline reports that the season 4 premiere generated 296.6 million viewing minutes in the United States across August 4 and August 5, based on Nielsen data provided by Apple, while the show also became the most-streamed program in the country on August 5 with more than 200 million viewing minutes.

Apple described the return as “the biggest launch ever for Apple TV,” showing that Ted Lasso still has a large audience after the long break between seasons.

Ted Lasso still has a huge streaming audience

The strong opening follows an already successful run for the series, which became the most-watched streaming original of 2023 despite Apple TV having a smaller subscriber base than several competing streaming services.

During that year, Ted Lasso generated 16.9 billion viewing minutes across its first 24 episodes, giving Apple one of its biggest streaming successes since launching Apple TV.

Season 4 brings Jason Sudeikis back as Ted, who returns to Richmond and begins coaching a second-division women’s football team, while Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift also return.

The new season also introduces Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely, expanding the cast as Apple starts a new chapter for one of its most successful original series.
