Mozilla is slowly giving its smartphone users a highly requested feature by bringing a native ad blocker to Firefox for iOS. The organization introduced this new addition as an experimental tool to help people browse the web with fewer distractions. If you use the browser on your iPhone, you might soon notice a cleaner internet experience without needing to download any extra plugins.

It operates at a network level to stop pop-ups and third-party trackers before they load.

The new ad blocker stops trackers but allows search ads

The experimental feature relies on a filter list to stop overlays and pop-ups. When activated, it blocks third-party trackers and ads served by outside networks right at the network level. However, the tool does not block everything you see. Mozilla built exceptions into the system, meaning ads on search engines like Google or DuckDuckGo will still appear. It also leaves sponsored content untouched on the home or new tab pages.

Or get it by email

This setup makes sense since the organization gets most of its funding through search deals. In fact, a huge chunk of its revenue comes directly from a partnership with Google. Biting the hand that feeds it would simply not be a smart move for the company.

Users can turn on the feature through the site menu

Since the rollout is gradual, you might not see the option immediately. Once the update hits your device, enabling the block is quite simple. You need to open the browser and load any webpage. From there, tap the menu button and look for the site menu. You will see an option for the ad blocker, which you can turn on in the settings.

If a webpage breaks, you can easily turn the toggle off to let the site load normally. People using hardware from Apple often notice that when a site breaks in one browser, it sometimes struggles in others too. This built-in option gives you a quick way to manage your browsing without relying on separate extensions.

Ultimately, this update gives mobile users a simple way to protect their privacy and speed up page load times. While it leaves search ads alone to protect a major revenue stream, the tool still offers a massive daily upgrade. Giving people more control over their data is a good step, and we will likely see the feature improve as the test phase continues.
