Jin I-soo ends the Season 2 finale alive, cleared of the murder frame-up and back beside the detectives who trusted him. Seong-won is exposed as the serial killer and placed behind bars, but the final scene introduces a bloodied stranger surrounded by photos of the team, ensuring the victory is not complete safety.
The ending works because I-soo does not solve the case by buying a convenient escape. He survives an attempt to erase him, then joins Ju Hye-ra in a trap designed to make Seong-won reveal the truth where influence and family protection cannot quietly bury it.

I-soo survives the frame-up and the fire
I-soo is framed for Young-hwan’s murder as the conspiracy around the drug Touch and hired killer Pil-gu closes in. The setup attacks his credibility as well as his freedom. A wealthy heir becoming a detective already invites suspicion, so planted evidence can be shaped into a story many people are ready to believe.
The basement fire and carbon monoxide exposure nearly make that story permanent by killing him before he can answer it. His rescue and treatment keep him in the fight, but survival is not framed as invulnerability. The case costs him physically and confirms how far Seong-won will go to preserve control.
The gallery trap makes Seong-won expose himself
At the gallery, I-soo and Hye-ra use Seong-won’s confidence against him. Their confrontation is carried beyond a private room through a livestream, encouraging him to speak as though he still controls the narrative. That public record becomes crucial because a confession heard widely is harder for powerful allies to contain.
The evidence catches up with the performance. Buried bodies are discovered at the property, Seong-won is arrested and his mother Tae-sun is also taken into custody. The ending does not excuse the violence as the product of family pressure; it links individual crimes to the structure that protected them.
A new watcher turns closure into a warning
Violent Crimes Unit 1 receives recognition, and a fresh case interrupts its attempt to enjoy a break. That beat restores the series’ everyday rhythm after the conspiracy. I-soo is not left as an outsider temporarily borrowing police authority. He has earned a place in a team that now understands both his resources and his judgment.
The final tag changes the mood. A bloodied man stands in a space covered with photographs of I-soo, Hye-ra, Jun-young and Kyung-jin. The show does not explain his identity or motive, but the selection of images makes the threat personal and focused on the unit rather than random violence.
