Prime Video has canceled Ride or Die after one eight-episode season, ending the action comedy’s run on the service. The decision arrived roughly two months after the July premiere, but the platform has not publicly stated why it chose not to order Season 2.
That missing explanation matters because the series did not disappear without signs of an audience. The Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer vehicle received positive reviews, reached the top of Prime Video’s public ranking after launch and appeared on weekly viewing charts. Those indicators make a simple lack-of-interest explanation too confident.
- Release date: July 15, 2026
- Episode: Eight-episode Season 1
- Title: Ride or Die
- Genre: Action comedy
- Streaming on: Prime Video
Prime Video has not explained the cancellation
Without a stated reason, claims about one decisive cause would be speculation. Streaming renewals can depend on completion rates, production commitments, international performance, ownership and the value a show adds to subscriptions, none of which has been fully disclosed for this decision. A chart position captures only part of that calculation.

The safest answer is therefore that Prime Video decided the series would not continue on its platform. Strong visibility can support a renewal case, but public rankings do not reveal the internal targets used to compare a show’s costs and long-term value.
Visible success did not guarantee renewal
Waddingham played Judith Burton, whose ordinary life concealed a career as an international assassin. Spencer played her best friend Debbie Claybourne, turning the secret into a relationship test and sending the pair into an action story built around their chemistry.
The two leads were also executive producers, making the cancellation notable beyond their performances. The show was designed around their partnership rather than a large franchise brand, and its first season had to establish both the espionage plot and the emotional history between Judith and Debbie. Their chemistry was the reason the genre shifts could stay connected.
A new home remains possible but unconfirmed
Paramount Television is reportedly shopping Ride or Die to other outlets. That effort keeps the possibility of another season alive, but it is not the same as a rescue. No competing streamer or network has announced a pickup.
Until a deal is confirmed, Season 1 should be treated as the complete Prime Video run. A move would require a buyer willing to take on the production and coordinate the returning cast, not simply strong viewer interest online. Any revival claim before that agreement would overstate the current status.
The cancellation is clear, while the business reason and future remain unresolved for right now. Would you follow Judith and Debbie to another service if the series finds a new home? Share your answer in the comments below.
