Apple’s next iPad mini may use the A20 Pro chip and move its front camera to the landscape edge, according to newly discovered code and product images. The material also points to a different speaker system, although Apple has not announced an iPad mini 8.
MacRumors attributes the discovery to contributor Aaron Perris, who found the references in Apple’s code. The images reportedly show only the front of the tablet, so they cannot establish whether Apple changed the rear casing, thickness or camera hardware.
A landscape camera and new speaker layout
Moving the camera to the long edge would make video calls look more natural when the iPad mini is held horizontally. The leaked image also shows a narrow groove at the top of the display glass, which may house a speaker. The volume and power buttons remain along the top edge in the image.

Code reportedly tied to the product includes an A20 Pro identifier and references to left and right vibration actuators. That arrangement is consistent with earlier reporting about a vibration-based speaker design intended to reduce or eliminate traditional speaker openings. It does not confirm a water-resistance rating.
The processor claim would be a major jump from the A17 Pro in Apple’s current iPad mini specifications. Previous reports disagreed over whether Apple would choose A19 Pro or A20 Pro, so the new code is stronger evidence for the latter but not a final specification sheet.
A separate report says an OLED iPad mini could arrive in October. Apple has also been linked to broader OLED plans for its tablets. Neither the leaked front image nor the code cited here confirms screen size, refresh rate, price or launch date.
For now, the useful takeaway is narrow: Apple appears to be testing a substantially revised compact iPad. Buyers still need an official announcement before relying on the A20 Pro, camera placement or speaker changes.
