The flashback supplies the missing motive
Jenna first arrives at the compound with Donald, stays behind and later builds a life with Henry. Their daughter Sarah dies in an accident, leaving Jenna broken and Henry desperate for an answer that grief cannot provide.
That sequence connects the immediate danger to an older wound. It is not simply a surprise appearance or a convenient clue. The returning information changes what the central characters believe they are trying to protect.
The scene is also careful about point of view. Viewers receive enough information to understand the development, but the people inside the story do not all possess the same facts. That imbalance explains why the next decision can still produce conflict after the reveal.
Maggie becomes Sarah inside Henry’s story
