DoorDash has revealed a brand new way for people to buy their food without ever opening a dedicated app. The food delivery service is testing an automated assistant that lets customers place food orders entirely through text messages inside Apple Messages. The system remembers past orders, allowing users to quickly request their usual Friday night dinner or ask for popular local food suggestions just by texting a prompt.
The system handles group meals and learns your food preferences
People in the United States can currently join a waitlist to test this new setup. When a user sends a message asking for their regular order, the artificial intelligence tool checks their history and builds a shopping cart. It also handles the payment process using information already saved on the user profile.
The setup also helps groups figure out what to eat. The AI agent can process different dietary needs and quantities all at once in a single chat thread. This removes the need for one person to manually collect and enter everyone else’s meal requests.

DoorDash claims this new option makes buying things feel much more like chatting with a personal assistant. While this feature remains in testing with a small group of consumers, the company has not shared when a wider public release will happen or if it will come to other messaging apps.
