The latest data shows that Apple is seeing strong growth in the Indian tablet market this year. Recent reports indicate that the tech giant shipped significantly more units of the iPad in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same time period last year. This healthy boost gives the company a much bigger piece of the local market, even as overall consumer demand shifts toward more expensive hardware options.

Strong premium device demand pushes shipments to 314,000 total units

During the second quarter of 2026, the company sold 314,000 tablets in India. This is a solid 34.5% increase from the 233,000 units it shipped during the second quarter of 2025. Thanks to these strong sales, its share of the Indian tablet market grew to 23%, up from 19.6% a year earlier. Samsung currently holds the top spot, controlling 26% of the market.

The broader tablet landscape in India is changing. Buyers are moving away from budget models and choosing higher-value hardware instead. Consumer shipments went up by 12% due to interest in newer and more capable devices. Meanwhile, business purchases pushed commercial shipments up by 11%.

On the flip side, education sales dropped by 12%. This drop happened because government tablet orders paused and entry-level hardware became more expensive to manufacture. Looking ahead, analysts expect total tablet sales in the country to reach 5.1 million units for all of 2026.

While the market is still growing, the pace will likely cool down as the year comes to a close. Still, with buyers heavily leaning into premium hardware, the tech giant is in a great position to keep building on its recent momentum.
