Spoilers for War Episode 1 follow. Johnny Warren’s secret role is the immediate danger in Episode 2: he works inside Carla Duval’s legal team while feeding information to Morgan Henderson’s lawyers. The next episode is scheduled for Thursday, October 8, at 9 p.m. Eastern on HBO in the United States, with HBO Max carrying the series. The premiere shows what that leak can achieve before Carla even knows she has one.
Morgan’s team gets the first formal move in the divorce and has papers served on Carla at a film premiere. The public setting makes the legal ambush embarrassing as well as tactical. Johnny helped the rival firm stay ahead while appearing to be an eager new hire at Taylor & Byrne. Episode 2 must deal with the advantage he has created, but no official preview has confirmed exactly when Carla’s side will discover him.

Johnny has access to both sides of the divorce
Johnny returns to London after working in New York and struggles to find a legal job. Cathcarts & Sons offers him a way in by placing him with its opponent, Taylor & Byrne. That firm represents Carla, while Cathcarts represents Morgan. Johnny’s employment is therefore not a simple question of divided sympathies. It is a concealed channel between adversaries in a case where information has enormous value.

Serena Byrne sees promise in him and gives him a chance. The betrayal will be personal for her as well as damaging for the case if she learns who arranged his position. For Johnny, success depends on seeming useful without becoming so visible that someone asks why the other side keeps anticipating Carla’s moves.
The red-carpet service gives Morgan an early lead
Carla begins the premiere believing she can control when the split becomes formal. Her lawyers prepare their own approach, but Morgan’s team gets ahead of them. He has been tipped off, and the rival firm’s access to information helps it act first. The moment does not decide the entire divorce. It demonstrates how quickly a private strategy can be turned against Carla once a mole sits in her war room.
That makes the opening advantage unstable. If Johnny keeps passing details, Morgan may continue to anticipate Carla’s legal decisions. If Johnny is caught, the exposure could damage his career and force both firms to confront how the case has been fought. The premiere does not establish which risk he will take next.
Episode 2 needs to test Johnny’s loyalties
War frames Johnny as ambitious enough to accept a job built on deception. Archie Renaux told TV Insider that the character is focused on the opportunity and has not yet spent much time considering the moral cost. That does not mean he will remain comfortable once he gets closer to Serena, Carla and the consequences of the case.
The next episode’s confirmed date is October 8; its precise twists are not yet established. The question is whether Johnny can remain a convincing colleague while acting as Morgan’s source. How long do you think he can keep both firms believing him? Leave your prediction in the comments.
