Spoiler warning: This article discusses major story details.

Clea is Michael Sleep’s missing partner, and her disappearance seven years earlier is the reason he becomes willing to consider making homunculi. Episode 1 does not solve what happened to her. It establishes that Michael has refused to treat her absence as a closed case.

That distinction drives the premiere. Other people see a man trapped by hope, while Michael sees continued loyalty. Brian’s improbable recipe reaches him at exactly the point where ordinary waiting has stopped producing answers.

Michael’s routine has been frozen since Clea vanished

Michael works at a DIY store, spars with his manager Gordon and returns to a home that still feels organized around somebody who might come back. His repetitive days make the seven-year gap feel less like elapsed time than a long suspension.

Clea’s brother Roy visits and carries his own grief. His presence shows that Michael is not the only person living with the disappearance, but the two men have developed different ways of enduring it. Michael’s refusal to accept a final answer keeps him emotionally apart.

Brian offers an impossible route to an answer

During a visit, Brian tells Michael about homunculi, tiny created beings said to answer questions when raised correctly. Michael initially treats the idea as nonsense, which keeps the show grounded even as it introduces alchemy.

The turning point comes when Michael finds Brian’s journal in the shed. Its drawing and instructions turn a rambling story into something physical he can test. The recipe involves ordinary, unpleasant materials, including rainwater and horse manure, but promises knowledge no normal investigation has delivered.

Michael’s choice is therefore less about suddenly becoming a believer and more about desperation. Trying the recipe costs him less than accepting that he may never know where Clea went.

The mystery starts with grief, not magic

Episode 1 keeps Clea mostly defined through the space she left behind. That makes her both a person Michael loves and an unanswered question the series must be careful not to reduce to a plot device.

The premiere’s ending sets up the experiment without proving every claim Brian makes. Michael has found a method, not an answer. Whether the little prophets can truly predict the future remains the season’s supernatural test, while Clea’s absence remains its emotional one.

The useful way to read this story is to separate what the distributor has confirmed from what the premise merely suggests. Cast lists, dates, chart positions and official loglines are firm details. Future plot turns, renewals and release timing remain open unless the cited source states them directly.

That distinction matters in fast-moving streaming coverage. Catalogs, aggregate scores and weekly rankings can change after publication, while an announced project may still be months from a trailer. This article reflects the information available on October 7, 2026.
