Should You Buy an M2 iPad Pro in 2026?

Apple iPad Pro

An M2 iPad Pro can still be a good purchase in 2026 if its price is well below a current iPad Air and its battery is in healthy condition. The 2022 model remains fast for notes, drawing, photo editing and video, but buyers should not pay a premium merely because the name includes Pro.

Apple’s 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro specifications list an eight-core CPU, 10-core GPU, ProRes media engine and Apple Intelligence support. The 12.9-inch version also has a mini-LED Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion, while both sizes include Face ID, Thunderbolt and support for an external display up to 6K at 60Hz.

Those features remain competitive, especially for someone who wants a 120Hz display without paying for a current OLED iPad Pro. The M2 model also works with Apple Pencil USB-C, although it does not support Apple Pencil Pro. Its older Magic Keyboard and second-generation Apple Pencil may be included in a used bundle, but they are not interchangeable with every current accessory.

The current iPad Air is the strongest alternative because it offers a newer M4 chip, 12GB of memory and Apple Pencil Pro support. Apple currently lists the Air from $749 in the US, so a used M2 iPad Pro should cost meaningfully less unless its storage, cellular connection or included accessories justify the difference. A small discount is not enough to offset an older battery and shorter remaining support window.

Before buying, check the screen for blooming, dead pixels and pressure marks, test Face ID and the USB-C port, and confirm that the Activation Lock has been removed. Ask about battery service history and verify the storage size because the 1TB and 2TB versions have 16GB of RAM, while lower-capacity models have 8GB. Our current iPad Pro and Air comparison can help put the older model’s display and ports in context.

The M2 iPad Pro makes sense as a discounted premium tablet, particularly the 12.9-inch model for media and creative work. Skip it when the price approaches a new Air, the seller cannot confirm its condition or you need Apple Pencil Pro and newer keyboard compatibility.
