Apple’s store page for LG’s Smart Deadbolt Lock spells out exactly which doors the $349.95 lock fits: standard single-cylinder deadbolt doors 40 to 51 mm thick, with a 54 mm cross bore and a 60 mm or 70 mm backset. According to Apple, it runs on four AA batteries rated for 6 months, with USB-C emergency power as a fallback.

That makes a tape measure the first thing to reach for. For the lock’s features and hands-free unlock, see our LG Smart Deadbolt Lock launch story. This piece is the fit check.
The fit check, step by step
Apple’s product page states that the lock “Works with standard single-cylinder deadbolts with door thickness 40-51 mm, cross bore of 54 mm, and adjustable backset of 60 mm or 70 mm.” Here is how to check each figure against your door.

- Door type: the lock is for a standard single-cylinder deadbolt, the kind with a key on the outside and a thumb turn on the inside. Apple’s page does not list double-cylinder deadbolts, which use a key on both sides.
- Door thickness: measure the door edge from face to face. It must fall between 40 and 51 mm.
- Cross bore: this is the large round hole through the face of the door where the deadbolt’s body sits. Apple lists 54 mm.
- Backset: measure from the edge of the door to the centre of that cross bore. The lock adjusts to 60 mm or 70 mm.
- Handedness: Apple says “The rounded design with versatile swivel is compatible with standard left-handed and right-handed doors,” so hinge side is not a concern.
- Wiring: none. Apple says the lock “features a built-in connector that does not require wiring, so installation is quick and simple.”
If your existing deadbolt passes all of that, the lock should fit the existing holes. The box includes its own deadbolt, strike box and strike plate, so your current hardware comes out.
Size and weight
Apple lists separate dimensions for the interior and exterior units. The interior unit is the bigger of the two, so check clearance around the inside of the door.
| Measurement | Interior unit | Exterior unit |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 6.5in (165mm) | 3.1in (79mm) |
| Width | 3.03in (77mm) | 3.1in (79mm) |
| Depth | 1.92in (49mm) | 1.25in (31.95mm) |
Total weight is listed as 53.4 oz (1.5kg). Apple’s note says that figure “Includes deadbolt, batteries not included.”
Power: four AA batteries and USB-C backup
The tech specs list “Power: Four AA batteries” and “Battery life: 6 months.” Four AA batteries are included, so you do not need to buy any to get started. Apple does not give the conditions behind the 6-month figure, so expect real-world results to depend on how often the door is used.
When the batteries run low, there is a backup. Apple says “USB-C backup power helps prevent you from being locked out if the batteries run out.” The product overview calls this USB-C emergency power, alongside “long-lasting battery power.”
You can also still get in with the physical key. Two mechanical keys are in the box.
What’s in the box
Apple’s list of included parts doubles as an installation checklist:
- LG Smart Deadbolt Lock interior unit and exterior unit
- Mounting plate, deadbolt, strike box and strike plate
- 4 AA batteries
- Swivel pin and fixing screw
- 4 mounting plate screws and 4 interior unit screws
- 5 deadbolt and strike box screws
- 2 mechanical keys
- Installation template and manual
The installation template is useful before you buy, too. If your door was never drilled for a deadbolt, you will need to cut new holes to Apple’s listed sizes, which is a bigger job than a straight swap.
Connectivity and other requirements
The spec sheet lists Matter under connections and Bluetooth under other features. Apple’s store footnote adds that the lock needs an iPhone running the latest operating system software for NFC pairing, and a Thread-enabled Apple Home hub such as HomeView, HomePod mini, or select Apple TV 4K devices.
The lock can also detect door movement on its own. Apple says the built-in smart sensor monitors whether the door is open or closed, “eliminating the need for separate magnetic sensors,” so there is nothing extra to mount on the frame.
If you would rather not fit it yourself
Apple’s Apple Home Collection press release says Apple Retail now offers third-party installation from ADT for an additional charge, available in the U.S. starting this fall. The lock’s store page says the service is offered in select areas and points to installation.adt.com for availability and pricing.
Our guide to ADT installation for Apple Home Collection walks through the booking steps and the deposit terms.
The lock is listed for the U.S. and Canada. Apple says Apple Home Collection will be available starting in December, with select accessories available starting early 2027, and the lock’s store page currently reads “Coming later.”
