What Happens in 100 Days of Deception Episode 5?

The episode picks up after the failed assassination attempt against Japanese official Sato. The resistance suffers heavy losses as Japanese authorities intensify their search for independence fighters.

Han Cheol-yong is killed during the operation, while other members struggle to escape. Meanwhile, Ga-gyeong continues working undercover at the Government-General, where every interaction increases the risk of exposing her identity.

Hideo also develops an unexpected connection with Kkot-nim, Ga-gyeong’s younger sister. After finding her alone, he takes her home and promises to teach her how to read, unaware of her connection to Ga-gyeong.

Why Does Ga-gyeong Decide to Quit?

Ga-gyeong’s situation becomes unbearable when police chief Fukuda orders her to interpret during an interrogation at Jongno Police Station.

The prisoner is Geum Seok-jung, a Korean independence fighter who has suffered severe torture. Fukuda forces Ga-gyeong to translate his threats and insults, leaving her visibly shaken.

The situation becomes more complicated when Seok-jung hears her assumed name, Geum Seo-hee, which belongs to his deceased daughter.

Hideo eventually intervenes, and Sato reprimands Fukuda, particularly because Ga-gyeong’s connection to American journalist Philip could attract unwanted international attention.

After returning home, Ga-gyeong learns that Seok-jung is So-ran’s husband. Furious that the resistance has exposed her to such danger, she packs her belongings and announces her decision to quit.

100 Days of Deception Episode 5 Ending Explained

The episode ends with Ga-gyeong walking away from the resistance during heavy rain, determined to abandon her dangerous assignment.

However, Philip follows her with a pistol concealed behind his back. When he addresses her using her false identity, she refuses to acknowledge the name.

The final scene leaves her survival uncertain, as Philip appears prepared to eliminate someone who knows too much about the resistance.

His actions also reveal how seriously the independence movement treats loyalty, especially when one member’s departure could expose everyone involved.

Ga-gyeong’s decision reflects her growing fear and exhaustion after witnessing the consequences of Japanese colonial rule firsthand.

As highlighted in Ready Steady Cut’s Episode 5 coverage, the ending places her future with the resistance in serious doubt.

With Philip’s intentions unresolved and Fukuda becoming increasingly suspicious, Ga-gyeong’s undercover identity faces its greatest threat yet.
