MacBook Studio: A Possible New Name for Apple’s OLED Touchscreen MacBook

Apple's upcoming OLED touchscreen MacBook could adopt the MacBook Studio name, bringing a new design, touch controls, and premium features.

Apple’s upcoming OLED touchscreen MacBook could introduce a new name to the company’s laptop lineup, with MacBook Studio emerging as a possible branding option. Although Apple has not confirmed the name, the redesigned laptop is expected to offer enough premium features to justify a separate position above the traditional MacBook Pro.

The company is preparing to introduce its first touchscreen MacBook at its October 28 “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles. According to Bloomberg, the redesigned models will feature OLED displays, touch input, and a lighter design.

As previously reported, Apple is developing 14-inch and 16-inch versions, potentially creating a new premium category within its MacBook lineup.

Why MacBook Studio Could Make Sense

Apple already uses the Studio branding for its Mac Studio desktop, which targets professionals working with demanding creative applications.

Extending that branding to a MacBook would give Apple a way to distinguish its touchscreen models from existing MacBook Pro laptops.

However, MacBook Studio remains a speculative name. Earlier rumors suggested MacBook Ultra, while more recent reporting indicates Apple could retain the MacBook Pro name.

The expected hardware changes include:

  • OLED touchscreen: Improved contrast, deeper blacks, and direct touch interaction.
  • Dynamic Island: A redesigned camera area replacing the existing display notch.
  • Lighter construction: Internal changes designed to reduce overall weight.
  • M5 Pro and M5 Max: Existing high-end processors reportedly powering the redesigned models.
  • macOS 27.2: Software optimizations designed to support touchscreen gestures and controls.

How Would MacBook Studio Fit Into Apple’s Lineup?

If Apple adopts the Studio name, its MacBook lineup could look something like this:

ModelExpected Positioning
MacBook AirEveryday use and portability
MacBook ProProfessional performance
MacBook StudioPremium OLED touchscreen experience

The biggest technical change would be the OLED panel, potentially using tandem OLED technology for better brightness and efficiency.

Meanwhile, Apple has reportedly been testing touchscreen support in macOS 27.2, including interface adjustments for finger input.

Will Apple Actually Use the MacBook Studio Name?

Apple has not registered or publicly announced MacBook Studio as the name of its upcoming laptop, and there is currently no credible reporting confirming that branding.

The redesigned models are expected to be announced on October 28, with availability reportedly beginning November 6.

For now, MacBook Studio remains an interesting naming possibility, while MacBook Pro appears to be the stronger expectation based on recent reports. Apple’s official announcement should settle the branding question.
