Recent findings inside the macOS 27 code suggest Apple is finally bringing the Dynamic Island to its laptop lineup. Developers uncovered several pill-shaped graphics that point toward a major screen redesign for the upcoming MacBook Pro. This change would officially remove the top screen notch that has been around since 2021, replacing it with the same interactive cutout currently found on modern iPhones.
New pill-shaped views show notifications for battery and audio
A code explorer known as pdfu on X discovered five new compact assets hidden in the system files. These small graphical windows are designed to pop out from a central point, handling alerts for low battery, Focus mode activation, and AirPods connection. They also show up for AirPods noise cancellation and automatic audio switching.
All of these new alerts tie into a system part called MenuBarAgent. According to the developer who found them, this sets up the software for a touchscreen Mac interface. This top menu space is also expected to hold Siri AI, which will reportedly show up in a droplet shape that hangs down from the menu bar.

These software clues arrive just as the company gets ready to announce its new OLED MacBook Pro lineup. With a special hardware event today, we will soon see how this notification system works on a laptop. It looks like the standard screen notch is retiring, giving you a much more useful way to see system alerts while you work.
