Apple announced the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display on October 28, 2026, in its newsroom release. It’s the first Mac with a touchscreen and a tandem OLED panel, and it comes in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips. Prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro. Pre-orders opened October 28, and the laptop reaches customers and stores on Friday, November 6. This page lists every spec Apple publishes, in plain English, and we’ll keep it updated.
The PROLED MacBook Pro uses the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips as the model it sits beside
| Chip | CPU | GPU | Memory bandwidth | Sizes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M5 Pro | 15-core (5 super, 10 performance) | 16-core | 307GB/s | 14-inch only |
| M5 Pro | 18-core (6 super, 12 performance) | 20-core | 307GB/s | 14-inch and 16-inch |
| M5 Max | 18-core (6 super, 12 performance) | 32-core | 460GB/s | 14-inch and 16-inch |
| M5 Max | 18-core (6 super, 12 performance) | 40-core | 614GB/s | 14-inch and 16-inch |
Every chip has a 16-core Neural Engine. The Media Engine handles H.264, HEVC, ProRes and ProRes RAW in hardware, plus AV1 decode. M5 Max doubles the video encode and ProRes engines from one to two.
What this means for you: the chip you pick sets your GPU power and memory bandwidth. The screen is the same either way. If you edit multicam video or run big local AI models, the 40-core M5 Max is the one that makes a real difference.

Memory goes up to 128GB and storage up to 16TB on the M5 Max
| Configuration | Unified memory | SSD storage |
|---|---|---|
| M5 Pro, 16-core GPU (14-inch) | 24GB or 48GB | 1TB, 2TB or 4TB |
| M5 Pro, 20-core GPU | 24GB, 48GB or 64GB | 1TB, 2TB or 4TB |
| M5 Max, 32-core GPU | 36GB | 2TB, 4TB, 8TB or 16TB |
| M5 Max, 40-core GPU | 48GB, 64GB or 128GB | 2TB, 4TB, 8TB or 16TB |
Apple notes that formatted capacity is lower than the stated SSD size. What this means for you: 128GB of memory only comes with the top 40-core GPU, so choose your chip based on the memory you need.
The tandem OLED display adds touch, a Dynamic Island and 2000 nits peak brightness
| Spec | 14-inch | 16-inch |
|---|---|---|
| Panel | 14.2-inch tandem OLED | 16.3-inch tandem OLED |
| Resolution | 3024 x 1986 at 254 ppi | 3472 x 2266 at 254 ppi |
| Contrast ratio | 10,000,000:1 | 10,000,000:1 |
| Brightness | 1000 nits sustained, 2000 nits peak (HDR, and SDR outdoors), 1 nit minimum | Same |
| Refresh rate | ProMotion, adaptive from 10Hz up to 120Hz | Same |
| Color | 1 billion colors, P3 and Adobe RGB, True Tone | Same |
| Input | Multi-Touch gestures, Dynamic Island | Same |
| Glass | Antireflective and oleophobic coatings, nano-texture option | Same |
Apple measures screen sizes diagonally as a rectangle, so the viewable area is a little smaller. The press release also says the panel covers over 80% of Rec. 2020. A polishing cloth comes only with nano-texture glass. What this means for you: Adobe RGB coverage is new and helps with print and photo work. The 2000-nit SDR peak helps when you work outdoors.
Battery life reaches 24 hours on the 16-inch M5 Pro, and fast charging hits 50% in 30 minutes
| Model | Battery | Video streaming | Wireless web | Adapter in box |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14-inch M5 Pro | 72.6Wh | Up to 22 hours | Up to 14 hours | 70W (15-core CPU) or 96W (18-core CPU) |
| 14-inch M5 Max | 72.6Wh | Up to 20 hours | Up to 13 hours | 96W |
| 16-inch M5 Pro | 100Wh | Up to 24 hours | Up to 17 hours | 140W |
| 16-inch M5 Max | 100Wh | Up to 22 hours | Up to 16 hours | 140W |
The 14-inch needs at least a 70W charger and fast charges at 96W or higher. The 16-inch needs at least 94W and fast charges at 140W or higher. Apple ran these tests on preproduction systems in September 2026, so your results will vary.

What changed from the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max and a Liquid Retina XDR display
The chips are identical, so every change is in the display and the chassis. The older figures come from Apple’s spec page for the Liquid Retina XDR model, which is still on sale.
| Spec | Liquid Retina XDR (M5 Pro or M5 Max) | PROLED XDR Display |
|---|---|---|
| Contrast | 1,000,000:1 | 10,000,000:1 |
| Peak brightness | 1600 nits HDR, 1000 nits SDR outdoors | 2000 nits HDR and SDR |
| Screen size | 14.2 in and 16.2 in | 14.2 in and 16.3 in |
| Touch and Dynamic Island | No | Yes |
| Thickness | 0.61 in and 0.66 in | 0.59 in and 0.63 in |
| 14-inch weight | 3.5 to 3.6 lb | 3.0 to 3.1 lb |
| 16-inch weight | 4.7 lb | 4.0 to 4.1 lb |

Apple also says the speakers deliver 50% deeper bass. The rated battery hours are the same on both models.
Pick the 14-inch M5 Pro unless your work needs M5 Max bandwidth or 16TB
For most of you, the sweet spot is the 14-inch with the 18-core M5 Pro and 48GB. It weighs 3 lb, half a pound less than before, and you still get the full OLED panel. Step up to M5 Max only if you render 3D, grade 8K or run large local models. That’s the work where 614GB/s and 128GB pay off. Pick the 16-inch for the bigger canvas and 24-hour battery, not for speed, because the chips are the same. If you don’t want touch or OLED, the Liquid Retina XDR model gives you identical performance.
