M6 MacBook Pro specs: 14-inch display, battery life, memory and ports

14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 running Xcode

Apple introduced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on October 27, 2026, in its newsroom release. It starts at $1,999, or $1,899 with education pricing. Pre-orders opened October 28, and it arrives on November 6. It keeps the Liquid Retina XDR display, and the M6 chip adds two CPU cores and two GPU cores. This page lists every spec Apple publishes, and we’ll keep it updated.

The M6 chip has a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine

SpecDetails
CPU12-core: 2 super cores, 4 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores
GPU12-core
Neural EngineDual 16-core
Memory16GB (153GB/s), or 24GB or 32GB (170GB/s)
Storage1TB, 2TB or 4TB SSD

Formatted SSD capacity is lower than the stated size. What this means for you: the 16GB base config has lower memory bandwidth. If you edit video or run local AI, 24GB is the better buy.

The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display hits 1600 nits peak for HDR

SpecDetails
Size and resolution14.2-inch, 3024 x 1964 at 254 ppi
Brightness1000 nits sustained, 1600 nits peak (HDR), 1000 nits SDR outdoors, 1 nit minimum
Contrast1,000,000:1
Refresh rateProMotion up to 120Hz
GlassNano-texture option, with a polishing cloth

What this means for you: you get the same kind of screen as on the M5 model. Touch and OLED aren’t available here. You’ll find them on the PROLED model.

What changed from the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5, using Apple’s own figures

Apple’s spec page now covers only the M6 model, so there’s no full side-by-side with the M5 version. Apple’s newsroom release gives these figures, measured against an M5 model with a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, 32GB and 4TB:

  • The CPU goes from 10 cores to 12 cores
  • The GPU goes from 10 cores to 12 cores, with graphics up to 30% faster
  • On-device AI is up to 25% faster, and the Neural Engine is up to 1.9x faster
  • LLM time to first token, Blender rendering and Xcode builds are each up to 1.3x faster
  • Affinity image processing is up to 1.2x faster

Against the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, Apple quotes up to 11x faster graphics, up to 13x faster AI and up to 4 more hours of battery life.

Get the M6 with 24GB and 1TB unless you need Thunderbolt 5

The $1,999 base config handles writing, coding and light photo work fine. Most of you should step up to 24GB, which adds memory and the full 170GB/s bandwidth. Skip 32GB unless you run local models. If you already own an M5 model, these gains don’t justify an upgrade. If you’re on M1 or Intel, you’ll see a big jump. If you need Thunderbolt 5, three displays or more GPU, get an M5 Pro model instead.

Where to buy the touchscreen MacBook Pro, and the cheaper MacBook Pro deals right now

Apple takes orders for the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display on its online store and in the Apple Store app, and it ships November 6. Amazon doesn’t list it yet. If you don’t need touch, Amazon has the M5 Pro and M5 Max models it sits beside for up to $610 off. See our MacBook Pro deals for every price we checked.

Need a faster charger for 50 percent in 30 minutes? Amazon sells Apple’s 96W USB-C Power Adapter for $79 and the 140W adapter for $99.
