Popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee, better known as MKBHD, has officially switched back to the iPhone 18 Pro after spending more than two weeks using Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. Despite enjoying the foldable design and larger display, Brownlee says the iPhone 18 Pro offers a better everyday experience, particularly when it comes to cameras and Face ID.

Brownlee confirmed his decision during the October 30 episode of the Waveform podcast, where he discussed his experience with the iPhone Duo and the compromises that eventually convinced him to return to Apple’s traditional flagship.

MKBHD Explains Why He Returned to iPhone 18 Pro

After using the Duo as his primary iPhone for more than two weeks, Brownlee said he had enough time to understand which device better suited his needs.

“I know which phone is better for me and my use. And I always end up back with the phones that I like the most.”

He explained that the iPhone 18 Pro’s cameras, Face ID authentication, and familiar everyday experience ultimately influenced his decision.

The camera differences are particularly significant because the iPhone 18 Pro features three 48MP rear cameras, including a dedicated 4x telephoto lens, while the iPhone Duo uses a dual-camera system without a dedicated telephoto camera.

Similarly, the iPhone Duo relies on Touch ID built into its side button instead of Face ID, making biometric authentication another noticeable difference between the two devices.

iPhone Duo Still Has Features MKBHD Will Miss

Despite returning to the iPhone 18 Pro, Brownlee praised the Duo’s larger foldable display, especially its ability to provide a more comfortable reading experience.

“The Duo is like the most toxic relationship I’ve ever had with a product because I love so much about it and I hate so much about it.”

He specifically mentioned enjoying the experience of unfolding the phone, rotating it into portrait orientation, and reading on the larger screen.

The Duo’s 7.6-inch inner display remains one of its biggest advantages, offering additional space for reading, multitasking, and viewing content that a traditional iPhone cannot match.

However, Brownlee’s decision highlights the compromises buyers face when choosing Apple’s first foldable device. The iPhone Duo’s camera limitations and different authentication system can affect everyday use, even when its larger display offers genuinely useful features.

For Brownlee, the iPhone 18 Pro remains the preferred choice after extended testing, although he clearly appreciates what Apple has achieved with its first foldable iPhone.
