ESPN Brings Marvel’s Vision to El Clásico for Historic ABC Debut

ESPN has teamed up with Marvel Studios to promote El Clásico’s historic debut on ABC, bringing Paul Bettany’s Vision into the spotlight for the October 25 match between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The collaboration also promotes Marvel’s VisionQuest series, which is streaming on Disney+.

According to ESPN’s official announcement, the partnership includes custom promotional content featuring Vision, the Marvel superhero portrayed by Bettany.

The centerpiece is a 30-second advertisement narrated by Bettany, connecting the upcoming Marvel series with one of soccer’s biggest rivalries.

ESPN also introduced several digital promotions to reach viewers across different platforms, including:

  • A soccer-focused Q&A featuring Bettany on ESPN FC’s social media accounts.
  • An animated promotional poster shared through Instagram and TikTok Stories.
  • Special Vision-themed advertisements during English and Spanish pregame coverage.
  • An exclusive VisionQuest promotional spot scheduled for halftime.

As Variety reported, Disney also promoted the match through SportsCenter and Live with Kelly and Mark. ESPN recruited content creators Devin Caherly and Dylan Acanfora to produce additional material from Barcelona.

Why ESPN Chose Marvel’s Vision

The collaboration arrived shortly after VisionQuest premiered on Disney+, giving Marvel an opportunity to introduce the series to a wider sports audience.

Bettany reprises his role as Vision in the Marvel Television series, which continues the character’s story following WandaVision.

The promotion also allows ESPN to attract Marvel fans who may have limited interest in Spanish soccer.

Both companies operate within Disney’s entertainment business, making the campaign an opportunity to promote two major properties through shared television and social media coverage.

The timing is especially important because ABC’s first El Clásico broadcast represents a significant expansion of ESPN’s LaLiga coverage.

El Clásico Makes Its Historic ABC Debut

Barcelona hosted Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday, October 25, marking the 265th official meeting between the rivals.

According to ESPN’s broadcast schedule, the match began at 4 p.m. ET, following a one-hour pregame show at 3 p.m.

The broadcast was available through:

The event brought together major soccer stars, including Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Vinícius Júnior.

ESPN plans to broadcast at least 20 LaLiga matches across ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2 during the 2026–27 season, making the Marvel partnership part of a broader effort to expand soccer coverage in the United States.

Meanwhile, viewers interested in Bettany’s Marvel character can watch VisionQuest on Disney+.
