Agent Mitchel MacNamara is one of the major new faces in Dark Matter Season 2, and his arrival immediately creates another serious problem for Jason Dessen and the growing number of his alternate versions.
Chris Diamantopoulos plays MacNamara, who first appears in the Season 2 premiere, “A Quiet Life.” While he carries the title of an agent, MacNamara makes it clear that he does not work for regular law enforcement and has experience operating around secret black sites.

MacNamara enters the story while investigating the extraordinary mess left behind by the Season 1 finale. Authorities have discovered 13 dead men who all look like Jason Dessen and share the same fingerprints, blood type, and DNA. Several living versions of Jason have also attracted attention.
MacNamara takes control of the investigation and questions one surviving Jason. However, he initially believes the identical men came from an advanced cloning operation rather than different universes.
His methods also suggest that he has considerable power. MacNamara tells Jason about his work involving black sites and makes it clear that he wants answers. The Jason he questions eventually points him toward another Jason as the person responsible for the chaos.
That investigation gives Season 2 another storyline outside Jason, Daniela, and Charlie’s attempt to build a peaceful life.
MacNamara could become a major problem for the Dessens
Season 1 ended after numerous versions of Jason reached the same Chicago reality because each wanted Daniela and Charlie. Daniela eventually chose the Jason she considered her husband, and the family entered the Box to search for another world.
Season 2 begins after the Dessens have apparently found some stability, but another Jason eventually reaches them. Their encounter forces the family to move again, while the consequences left behind in their original reality continue growing.
MacNamara now represents that unfinished business. He does not understand the multiverse yet, but his investigation has already connected the identical bodies, surviving Jasons, and the person he believes caused the situation.
Dark Matter Season 2 is also moving beyond the events covered by Blake Crouch’s original novel, giving the series room to expand characters such as MacNamara as the Box draws more people into its consequences.
