The man who enters the Dessen house is another Jason created during Jasonās journey through the Box. Like the Jason Daniela chose at the end of Season 1, this version remembers their marriage, Charlie, and the life he once shared with Daniela.
He therefore considers himself Danielaās husband and believes the Jason currently living with her took his family away from him.
Daniela refuses to make another choice between different versions of Jason. When the visitor refuses to leave and follows her into the bedroom, she grabs the family’s gun and shoots him.
Shortly afterward, another Jason enters the house. Daniela cannot immediately know whether he is the man she has spent the previous seven months with, so she keeps the gun pointed at him and asks for their safe word.
He answers āpatience,ā confirming that he is the Jason who had created the word with her earlier that day.
Why the Dessen Family Has to Leave Again
Jason initially plans to bury the dead variant and continue their new life, but the visitor left behind a stolen vehicle containing notes that lead the police directly to the house.
Officer Jay Stringer arrives while Jason is digging a grave and quickly becomes suspicious. After the situation turns violent, Daniela and Jason restrain him, collect Charlie, and return to the Box before more officers arrive.
Charlie eventually reaches an important conclusion. Moving between realities will never make them completely safe while other Jasons can continue using the Box to find them. Jason therefore decides they should locate one final world and destroy the Box afterward.
Where Does Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 1 End?
Their search eventually takes the Dessens somewhere familiar to Jason. They arrive in the advanced Chicago reality where Jason previously left Amanda during Season 1.
Ryan is also living in this reality with Amanda, meaning several major Season 1 storylines are now moving toward each other. The episode also reveals that dimensional travel has become more complicated, with another Box appearing in this world.
Season 1 ended with Charlie choosing a new reality for his family after countless versions of Jason converged on their original world. Season 2 shows that leaving Chicago only delayed the consequences of those events.
With the Dessens back inside the multiverse and Amanda and Ryan now within reach, Episode 2 has several major reunions and new problems ready to unfold. What do you think Jason should do with the Box, and can the Dessen family ever find a reality where they are truly safe? Let us know in the comments.
