HBO’s Harry Potter series has replaced its Ginny Weasley actor and added Dobby and Tom Riddle to the next season’s cast. Hill’s casting gives the series a chance to establish Ginny as more than a future relationship in Harry’s life. The immediate task is smaller and more unsettling: show a young witch being isolated by a secret she does not understand. That conflict can give the season emotional weight without revealing more than the story needs to at the start.
Dobby brings the Malfoys’ threat into Harry’s home life
Rush’s Dobby is not merely comic relief. The house-elf’s warnings make clear that the crisis began before Harry returns to school, and his connection to the Malfoys links a domestic injustice to the larger danger. The series needs that balance: Dobby can be memorable and strange while still carrying real fear about what he has seen.
His arrival also widens the show’s moral world. The story’s treatment of house-elves will be watched closely because Dobby’s loyalty is born from abuse, not whimsy. A strong adaptation will let Harry’s response to him show compassion without making the character’s situation decorative.
Tom Riddle turns the diary into a warning from the past
Barratt’s Tom Riddle has the most difficult function of the three: he must seem helpful long enough for the reveal to work, while carrying the confidence that makes the character frightening. The diary’s appeal is that it offers answers to a lonely reader. Its danger is that the voice answering already has an agenda.
